STRESS

STRESS has been linked to most of the leading causes of death, including heart disease, cancer, accidents and suicides.

What is STRESS ?

Stress is any change that you must adapt to. It doesn't matter if it is a "good" change, or a "bad" change. They are both stressful. Even when you find your dream home and get ready to move, that is stressful. If you break your leg, that is stressful. Good or bad, change is stress as far as your body is concerned.

What Can I Do to Reduce Stress?

Your plan for reducing stress in your life can be as simple as closing your eyes for 5 minute periods throughout a stressful day. Going to a hair salon, barber or to get your nails done are also ways to relax and take a few minutes for yourself. For a Stay-At-Home Treat, contact your Certified Self-Care Consultant to schedule a Spa Party of a 15-minute Self-Care Analysis.

Regular Exercise - Head of public health advice Karen Ford said: "It's about simple things like walking and cycling that don't require a huge lifestyle change. "Exercise prescription schemes are all very well but in terms of value for money and something people can commit to, straightforward advice on doing a bit of walking is better."

Deep Breathing - Deep controlled breathing is a natural tranquilizer and rejuvenator. By slowing down the rate of respiration, we reduce strain on the heart and improve metabolism. When we breathe deeply we raise our level of energy, which slows down the aging process and enables us to look and feel younger.

Meditation - Exercise for the Mind - The numerous forms of meditation include focus on breathing, silent words and phrases, or particular energy centers of the body. Meditation disciplines can be done walking, standing, lying down or sitting, but all combine deep breathing, mindfulness and stillness. The practice of meditation enables a relaxed state of awareness, insight into problems, lessening of stress, improved health maintenance and increased productivity.

Yoga - Yoga is an Indian science of physical and mental health that is over five thousand years old. The word "yoga" means "union" and is the practice of postures, breath work, and meditation. There are different yoga paths and training methods, but the ones most suited to Western lifestyles are those that focus on physical training and meditation. Different yoga postures, when properly practiced, utilize the full and natural range of movement of the human body. It is believed that yoga is the key to youthfulness, vitality, long life and to creating harmony and peace of mind.

Toning and Sound - The study of how sound, language and music affect our brain is known as psycho-acoustics. Sound influences our emotional and mental states, our spiritual awareness, and our physical body. Singing, toning, chanting and the use of crystal bowls have proven to affect the emotional circuitry of the brain, inducing profound states of relaxation and even improving our learning abilities.
